Ingstream is the brand under which, the music of anti-paradigmatic guitarist, Joseph Ingolia appears. The name is a portmanteau of his surname's first three letters, and the word, stream -- in the sense of a "stream" of ideas.
Ingstream produces instrumental music for use in film and video games. Joseph Ingolia has worked with varied aspects of music for forty years -- beginning with the usual performance work in mainstream alcoholic and non-alcoholic venues. Academic study of his instrument began concurrent with this, and continued throughout his career, taking him through associations with many world class musicians and pedagogues. He has recorded two independent releases with Catherine's Horse, a band composing and performing original material throughout the Midwest. This ensemble gained the attention of several major artists in Chicago which were famous in the 1990s, Smashing Pumpkins, Urge Overkill and Material Issue. Both releases were helmed by producer/engineer, Jeff Moleski who engineered demo work for Billy Corgan and James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins). The second of these releases was mastered by industry heavyweight, Bernie Grundman.
Ingolia returned to the Jazz idiom and worked with Champaign-Urbana musicians, Peter Roubal, John Hutchens, Gary Peyton, Shab Wirtel, Chip McNeill, Morgan Powell, Sam Hankins, Johnathan Beckett and several others. His work has also included pit-orchestra accompaniment of Summer Stock plays at the Little Theatre on The Square in Sullivan, Illinois for Grease, Swing and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He has held the guitar chair in TOFB, a classic R&B horn band for twenty plus years. All the way along, Ingolia has secretly developed experimental and anti-archetypal ideas which have now, started finding their way to actualization. Ingstream is available on all major platforms.
"I appear to be obsessed with the transmutation of pure emotion through remembered experience, into virtually correlative sounds and textures. Since guitar is my principle and first instrument, I want to use it exclusively to produce all sounds that constitute my material. I enlist the aid of electronic processing of the guitar's signal, chord voicings of a more pianistic nature and harmonic progressions which elicit surprises for the listener."
